Fun Facts:
Katy was secretary of SWE UML. In addition to SWE UML, she was also a member of UML’s Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Pi Tau Sigma, and the Ballroom Dance Club.
Education:
Katy says that Applied Strength and Materials and ME Lab II were two of the hardest classes for her while studying at UML. Her favorites were MEMs, Mechanical Behavior of Materials, and Biomaterials I & II.
Favorite Place to be at UML: "Eggroll café, due to an addiction to bubble tea.”
Her advice: Try out several types of internships so you get an idea of your strengths, likes, and interests. Plus, don't be afraid of taking a course for fun outside of your major (that's how I ended up studying Mandarin which led to that fun internship).
- She worked in Beijing for a summer as an intern in the energy division at Mott MacDonald. Through that experience, along with courses she took at UML, she can speak, read, and write enough Mandarin Chinese to get by on her own.
- She was part of two winning DifferenceMaker teams: Nonspec and Indoor Hydroponics System (Smart Grower).
